The Explanation – How You Can Get A Flat and Toned Stomach

Getting a flat and toned stomach is actually easier than you may think. If you do it the correct way, it’s a breeze!

This very process we are about to show you is based upon losing body fat and toning your entire body. Yes, we said entire body! Did you know that you don’t have to do hundreds of sit ups every day to get a toned stomach? In fact, it would hurt you and hinder your results.

Our approach  has been very successful in both of our personal training careers. It’s  has been always regarding regaining balance within the body and letting your body do the work for you.

How does that sound? Wonderful?

Here is how you will get a flat and toned stomach! There is a simple equation that really explains it!

Total Body Fat Loss + Total Body Workouts = Toned Stomach

That’s what we will teach you. Let’s break it down now!

Total Body Fat Loss: The goal here is to lose total body fat, since you just read that you cannot spot reduce any one part of your body.  This is actually much easier than you think. The logic behind this is that if you lose body fat, your stomach (of fat) will decrease along with your total body fat levels. This will then tighten your stomach (and total body) appearance so that your abdominal muscles show through.

Still with me? Ok then…

In our experience, if you are a male, 8% body fat is a great percentage to strive for. If you are a woman, 16-18% body fat percentage is what you should strive for to see a toned stomach.

Body fat percentage is just a calculation of your fat mass and lean muscle mass ratio. You can get this calculation at any gym.

Losing total body fat is accomplished through increasing your resting metabolism through resistance training and eating healthy. Also, by staying physically active all day, you are burning calories on a consistent basis throughout the day!

Total Body Workouts: The reason why we say, “Total body workouts” is because you must strengthen your entire body. Resistance training is a fantastic way to increase your resting metabolism to burn body fat while building the figure you’ve always wanted.

By adding muscle mass to your entire body, you are increasing your resting metabolism dramatically. By increasing your resting metabolism, you will be burning more fat calories at rest. In turn, you will be always burning fat off your body even while you are not working out.

So, would you like to burn fat while you sleep? Sounds perfect right? That’s what we thought and that’s why we are so excited to bring you this information today!

You need to understand that if you do not increase your muscle size or definition through resistance training, you will not see the toned stomach you are looking for. You can lose all the weight you want but if you haven’t yet developed your abdominal muscles, you won’t see them.

Step by Step Guide To Get A Toned Stomach:

Step #1

In this first step, you must start eating the correct way. We have included a “Nutrition” Page on this website to help you out with that. Within the Nutrition Page,you will find advice, guidance and a couple sample nutrition plans for your convenience.

By eating healthy, you will be giving your body what it needs to lose total body fat and build lean, toned muscles. Your nutrition is like gas in a car. Would you put sand in your gas tank? We think not! That’s what it’s like when you put a French fry in your mouth! We think you understand the point here.

Step #2

As we said earlier, you must do resistances training! By starting a resistance training program, you are allowing your body  to develop muscle so when you lose total body fat, you will see the figure that you have always wanted.

We have outlined some key exercises to incorporate in your exercise program in the “Workout” Page! There, you will see pictures of Mitch Hell doing exercises that will greatly impact your results.

ATTENTION WOMEN: We  know what you may be thinking when you hear the words “Resistance Train”.  We used to hear this time and time again with new clients of ours, “I am a woman and don’t want to get bulky”. You don’t have to worry; you won’t get bulky like a man. You simply don’t have enough testosterone to do so. What you will get is sexy toned muscles that you can show off and feel the confidence that comes with a sexy, toned body!

Step #3

In this step, you will need to balance out your body so it’s easier for your body to burn fat! We like the simple approach to body fat loss so letting the body do the work is the way to go. We are sure you would agree!

What we mean by “balance” out your body is that most of the time, when people try to lose weight or simply get in shape they do it all wrong. The best way we can demonstrate this is by giving you an example. See if you can tell if ”Fran”  is balanced or not!

“Frank, a hypothetical man, wants to lose body fat and get a six pack. He exercises  5 days a week and eats 1200 calories a day. He is roughly 250 pounds. Frank has a very strict diet throughout the week, and on the weekends, he eats whatever he wants. He sleeps 6 hours a night and has a very high stressed desk job.”

What do you think of Frank? Over all, Frank is not balanced.

Let us explain,

Since Frank is exercising 5 days a week and only getting 6 hours of sleep at night, he may not be getting enough sleep to successfully repair his muscles from his work outs. That means, each time he exercises, he continues to break down his muscles and doesn’t let his muscles heal. You only build muscle when you sleep and rest.

On the other hand, Frank isn’t even eating enough to support his bodily functions. He isn’t eating enough or giving his body what he needs to even heal his muscles.

What does that mean? He won’t build muscle and actually will increase his chance of fat storage in his body. You can also see that he is stressed out at a desk job. Stress, increases cortisol levels (a stress hormone) that helps his body STORE fat! Since he is working a desk job (mainly sitting all day), he is not burning enough calories during the day to burn fat.

All in all, he is not going to see his goals happen anytime soon.

Let’s take a smarter approach to getting a toned stomach and losing total body fat by looking at Jane!

“Jane, has been overweight for years and has managed to lose fifty plus pounds. She currently is 190 pounds. Her goal is to lose ten pounds by summer - only two months away. She exercises four days a week, works at a retail center and makes sure she eats healthy food every four hours. She eats 1700 calories evenly throughout the day.  Her stress is high at work, but she learns to lower stress when she can. By the end of the day, she is stress free and has a restful night sleep. She sleeps for eight hours total and wakes up refreshed to start the day.”

Jane is on the right track. She has a proper sleep schedule so her body is able to heal from her exercise sessions. She also eats healthy so her body has all the nutrients it needs to look and feel healthy. She is also eating enough calories based on her size and weight to support healthy weight loss.

It’s a very good idea to eat enough food, because if you don’t, your body goes into starvation mode and then your body will store fat “instead” of burn fat.

Jane learned to manage stress to keep her stress hormone levels down. Overall, she is doing terrific.

We hope you see the point that we are trying to make here. All of these concepts need to be in play to reach your goals. If you miss nutrition but you are working out hard to lose weight, you might NOT see that goal happen.

Balance out your body by managing your nutrition, sleep, exercise and stress levels.

Step #4

Physical activity is another very important step to achieving your toned stomach. Remember  to get a flat and toned stomach, you must burn total body fat. This will ensure that you see your underlying muscles.

Physical activity means that you should be burning calories thoughout the day. This will help with total calorie burn for that day. If you are not burning enough fat calories during the day, you won’t lose body fat easily.

Think about how much time each day you spend inactive. For some, it’s a lot and some it’s just a few hours.

Anytime you are sitting or don’t move much will decrease your chance of losing fat.

Some simple things you can do to increase your physical activity are:

  • Take walks after dinner
  • Take the dog for a walk in the morning
  • Walk your kids to a bus stop
  • When sitting in a chair, pick up your legs and exercise your stomach muscles
  • Tap your foot to burn calories while standing or sitting
  • When sitting at a desk, sit on a stability ball instead of a chair
  • Take the stairs instead of an elevator
  • Park far away from the grocery store and walk in from the furthest parking spot

All of these can help you burn calories all day long and give you a chance to see results.

Step #5

The final step would be to track your progress. We  recommend  you measure yourself and track your workouts. Perhaps take a “before” picture. This will establish an excellent starting point you can track and find out if you are making progress or not.
